Where are you located?
I'm in the historic W.G. Smith Building, located at 263 Haywood Street, 28801, in downtown Asheville. People sometimes get lost heading toward Haywood Rd in West Asheville and GPS has been known to auto-correct to this, so do be mindful!
Follow the driveway to the right of the building, and use the free parking lot out back. Come on in through the rear parking lot entrance on the lefthand side (green dot in photo above.)
Follow the hallway to the waiting area at the front of the building. Park yourself on one of the chairs or bench. I will greet you in the lobby at our scheduled appointment time, so just hang out and relax.
My office is pictured below. Sometimes visuals like these photos help reduce kids' anxiety about coming to therapy, so feel free to share!
What should we bring to our first appointment?
Copies of any previous evaluations or assessments (for example: psychological evaluation, occupational therapy evaluation)
Names, dosages, and dates taken for any previous or current medications or supplements for your child
Names & contact information of any previous or current therapist, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, physical therapist, naturopathic doctor, pediatrician, etc.
BCBS insurance card if applicable; check, credit card or HSA card
Something to entertain your child (books, Ipad and headphones, etc.)
What should we expect?
The first appointment will be a lot about information gathering and ensuring that we are a great fit.
The purpose of a thorough assessment is to make sure that I am best understanding your child's problems and can adequately help. A child's symptoms can have thousands of meanings. It is my job to discover the unique meaning behind your child's concerns. Until I understand the root of the concern, I cannot ethically provide you with good recommendations or treatment.
If at the end of our first appointment, I feel you might benefit from another type of therapist or a different level of care, I will provide referrals. I will also check in with you to see if my style and approach feels right for your family. My goal is always to help your family get the best care possible, even if that's not with me.
