Autistic Teen Group

Neurodiversity-Affirming Support for Autistic Girls, Non-Binary, and Trans Teens, ages 16-18 years old

Our lovely group room, the library at Haw Creek Commons, in the Haw Creek Neighborhood, about 15 minutes east of downtown Asheville, NC

Group therapy is awesome! In a group, we can find belonging, solidarity, validation, community, and hope. You are not alone!

The vibe of this group is playful, accepting, silly, imaginative, identity affirming, and fun. We laugh a LOT, and we support each other. Snacks, art supplies, and fidgets are provided each week, or you can pack your own. Stimming and doodling are encouraged!

This group’s topics are driven by individual group members’ interests and needs, but may include intersectional Autistic identity, masking and unmasking, gender, sexuality and healthy relationships, perfectionism, depression and anxiety, ableism and discrimination, executive functioning and college prep, passionate interests, pop culture, and more! Group members get to decide what’s discussed.

Group is led by Danielle Maxonight, LCSW, a licensed child and family psychotherapist with 14 years of clinical experience supporting families. Danielle is neurodivergent herself and has received advanced training from the incredible autistic professionals of Ausome Training in Cork, Ireland.

Group is capped at 8 adolescents and is semi-open, with chances for new members to join only periodically. A month-by-month commitment allows for more trust to grow amongst existing group members. Formal psychological or medical diagnosis is NOT a requirement to participate; all that self-identify as Autistic or questioning are welcome!
